Plumeria Plants – How To Grow Plumeria Cuttings

One of the quickest ways to enjoy plumeria flowers is to plant plumeria cuttings. It cannot be emphasized enough to purchase plumeria cuttings only from reputable retailers to get good quality. Prices vary, and prices do not always translate into quality. Higher prices though often reflect well known plumeria varieties.

One of the big advantages of propagating plumeria plants from cuttings is that the buyer is able to choose very specifically the plant he/she wants, based on the color, growth habits, fragrance or a number of other desirable traits that are present in a particular plumeria variety.

Cuttings should be at least 12 inches in length and taken from mature wood. Immature cuttings taken from green wood are very hard to root even though it can be done.

Certain varieties of Plumeria obtusa and some red colored plumerias are harder to root and may take longer to develop their root system.

Discuss with the plumeria retailer the shipping arrangements that will guarantee that your quality plumeria cutting will arrive in good condition particularly during the colder months of the year.

The next step is to wet the bottom of the cutting with lukewarm water, shake off any excess water, insert the cutting in the rooting hormone, and insert it into the potting medium. Add the plant stake next to the plumeria cutting and tie the cutting to the plant stake with tie-ups.

Plumeria cuttings have such a strong life force in them that they start to develop leaves and inflorescenses without even having started the rooting process. One can find out if any roots have developed by giving the cutting a light tug to test for resistance. Any resistance indicates some root development.

Plumeria cuttings may root within weeks or may take several months to develop roots depending on the particular plumeria variety. Days Out for Sherlock Holmes Fans

Sherlock Holmes is arguably the world’s most famous and recognised fictional detective. He is a timeless character who is loved by young and old throughout the world. His pipe smoking image is recognisable all around the world. Author Sir Conan Doyle wrote beautiful descriptive stories which have been translated into hundreds of language and read throughout the world. The Sherlock Holmes character was written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle back in 1887. The first story was called ‘A study in Scarlet’ followed by ‘The Sign of Four’ three years later. The actual character was inspired by a real life doctor who Doyle worked for during his years studying medicine. Serous fans will already know this but may not be aware of a London walk dedicated to this character. If you are a real fan of Sherlock Holmes then the London walking tour is a must see event.

The 2 ? hour tour starts at the famous address of Mr Holmes which is now a museum, 221b Backer Steet London. On the tour you get to visit many TV and movie locations which were featured in the recent BBC TV production with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. Also on route you will see many of the locations in the last big screen adaptation which was directed by Guy Richie and stared the great Robert Downey Jr.

The walking tour is led by an expert who will be able to answer questions about the famous detective. You will get lots of opportunities to take pictures and see the locations up close. If you have read all of the books then this tour is a must for you. You will meet many other fans on this walk so will have plenty of opportunity to talk to like minded people. You may even leave the tour with some new friends to keep in touch with.

Moneywise the cost of the tours is really reasonable, only ?15 per person, or if you have a group of up to 4 the price goes down to just ?10 each. If you have over 5 people in your group the tour costs just ?8 each. Another idea is to buy gift vouchers. These make a great gift idea for someone who has a love of Sherlock Holmes. They can then choose the day and time of trip for when it suites them. If you buy a couple of vouchers they can take a friend which the giver of the vouchers would probably be first in line.

London, England – Westminster Abbey

For a few minutes in the main body of Westminster Abbey the eye can do little but travel upwards. The ordered, multiplying lines of columns and arches reaching up to a dizzying 30m (98 feet) demand it. This is Gothic architecture at its best: everything designed to emphasise the majesty of God while retaining a sense of man’s relationship with the transcendent. No wonder then, that this is the resting place of royalty, Isaac Newton, Samuel Johnson, Alfred Tennyson, Laurence Olivier; Diana, Princess of Wales; that it is one of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites.

Edward the Confessor began building a stone church for a small Benedictine monastery on the site in the mid-11th century. (There were monks there until the Dissolution in 1540.) There could have been no greater irony than that an invader Norman William the Conqueror, should have been crowned there in December 1066, within a year of the abbey’s consecration. Coronations of British monarchs have been held in the abbey ever since.

The shrine of Edward the Confessor is still considered the most sacred part of the abbey and continues to attract pilgrims. The oak Coronation Chair, first used when Edward II was crowned in 1307, is there.

The Anglo-French Gothic masterpiece we see today is the result of Henry III’s desire to build a grander shrine to Edward the Confessor. He initiated the abbey’s refashioning in 1245. Henry VII added the lady chapel, with its fine fan vaulting, in the early 16th century. The West Towers were unfinished from medieval times and were completed to Nicholas Hawksmoor’s design between 1722 and 1745.

The abbey is huge and filled with monuments. To appreciate it best, go to a service to hear the choir accompanied by the abbey organ. Don’t forget to go outside to the cloisters which give an excellent view of the flying buttresses.

Primary Airspace Restrictions for South-East England

Prohibited Zone: Aircraft will not be allowed within the Prohibited Zone unless they are IFR traffic and have undergone crew, passengers and baggage screening in accordance with the relevant aviation security programme, and inbound to or outbound from Heathrow, London City, RAF Northolt, Biggin Hill and under the control of those airports or NATS TC or Thames Radar. Restricted Zone: Aircraft will be allowed to enter the Restricted Zone if they can comply with a set of requirements defined by aircraft type (see How to use the restricted zone). Airfields within the Prohibited Zone, and airfields within 3nm of the outer boundary of the Restricted Zone, may apply for certain exemptions to the restrictions subject to specific conditions to be agreed with the appropriate authorities. The following airfields have been identified as potential examples of these. Prohibited Zone: London City; Northolt; White Waltham; Denham; Fairoaks and London Heliport (Battersea). Restricted Zone: Duxford; Shuttleworth (Old Warden); Halton; Dunstable Downs; Lashenden (Headcorn); Earls Colne; Booker and Weathersfield. Applications will be considered on a case by case basis.

What sort of impact will this have on General Aviation?

Martin Robinson (AOPA) identified the main issue facing GA as one of capacity in the restricted area and sought guarantees that no aircraft that qualified for entry would be refused access. There are no such guarantees; while NATS says it will recruit extra staff and do its best, it says it has no realistic way of estimating traffic requirements and cannot guarantee entry – indeed, it is possible that at peak times, access will be denied.

Essentially, most aircraft will have to file a VFR flight plan on Afpex or AFTN between 24 hours and two hours prior to take-off. If the flight is approved they will be given an access code, to be quoted on first contact with ATC, and they will have to follow their flight planned route. Radio contact must be maintained, and a squawk will be given – Mode S, C or A. For the duration of the restriction, the requirement for an altitude-encoding transponder in the Stansted TMZ will be lifted. Circuits will be allowed at affected airfields without the need for a flight plan, although a transponder will be required. Gliding, hang gliding and paragliding can continue from sites notified to the authorities, as long as aircraft fly no more than 3nm from the site. Cross-country glider flying can be arranged, but will be treated the same as powered aircraft – flight plans must be filed and adhered to, radios and transponders must be carried.

Over the years, some celebrities have had such incredibly awesome costumes that they have made the news. Here are a number of celebrity costumes that have made the news.

Jenny McCarthy looked totally ravishing in a French Maid costume a few years back. She accessorized the look with some fishnet stockings and a pair of sexy black heels. The flouncy frock that was coupled with a plunging neckline made her look like the perfect naughty French maid. When Lydia Hurst decided to dress up as a page six reporter, it was also deemed newsworthy. This was quite the celebrity costume for Lydia Hurst, considering she is well known as a notorious socialite who loves to party. Dressing up as a reporter for a column that she frequently appears in was mature, as well as hilarious. It also showed that she had no bad blood with page six.

Tyra Banks, on the other hand, decided to imitate her fellow celebrity and decided her celebrity costume would be Kim Kardashian. Tyra is known for these stunts, as she also dressed up as Paris Hilton once, together with a blonde wig and a Chihuahua to boot! Tyra looked great as Kim Kardashian, getting the lovely locks of hair just perfect as well as Kim Kardashaian’s signature pose. She even tried her best to imitate the facial expressions!

You would think Katerina Graham would be bored with the whole vampire scene, considering she stars in the television drama Vampire Diaries. This was not the case though, when the news featured her eye catching vampire costume. Katerina had on a sexy little black dress proving that vampires do not have to always be depicted as a pale, brooding lot. She topped off her celebrity costume with a pair of fangs and a visible trickle of blood conspicuously at the corner of her mouth.

The same applies to Alyssa Milano. Although she spent most of her time on the set of Charmed, playing out scenes concerning the supernatural, she still chose an angel’s outfit for her celebrity costume. The ensemble was superb on her, with a corset topped off with wings.

The most talked about celebrity costume that was on the news for days on end had to be Lady Gaga’s meat dress. Although Lady Gaga is known for her outrageous celebrity costumes, the meat dress got the tongues of everyone wagging. People could not decide if she really was trying to send out a message of if she just revels in all the attention.
